Margaret Muriel Keay was born September 5, 1920, in Kenneth, MN, the daughter of George and Nannie (Standish) Keay.  Her family moved to East Moline in 1925 and Margaret graduated from East Moline High School in 1938.  She met her future husband, John Arnold Sandberg, when they both worked at International Harvester Farmall Works in Rock Island.  They were married April 9, 1944, at First Covenant Church on Easter Sunday.  They lived in Masland, OH, during the war where Mr. Sandberg designed Navy planes for Goodyear Aircraft Company.  After the war, they made their home in Moline, first in a Molette house, and later built one of the first homes in Crestwood Hills.  They were blessed to share over 46 years of marriage and memories together before John passed away on June 3, 1990. Margaret and John raised three daughters in Moline with all three graduating from college.  Margaret was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.  She was a strong supporter of her children through PTA and Girl Scouts. She was a member of First Covenant Church and the Women of Faith Circle.  She was a long-standing member of the Alice Kennedy Circle of Kings Daughters and Sons, whose service project was beginning and supporting Friendship Manor where she spent her final years.  She enjoyed games of all kinds, especially Bridge with her friends and Crazy 8’s with her grandchildren.   She enjoyed traveling with her husband all over the world and called Naples, FL her second home.  She was an accomplished crafter, and did knitting, counted cross stitch, porcelain doll painting, and blanket making.  Margaret was a golfer at Short Hills Country Club and an avid fan of University of Illinois football and basketball. Those left to honor Margaret’s life include her children and their spouses: Judith (William) Rhyne, Moline, Jeri Laud, Moline, and Janet (Jon) Carlson, Birmingham, AL; grandchildren: Kathryn (Kelsey) Moran, Andrew Rhyne, Niklas (Christon) Carlson, Jordan (Buddy) Dillenberg, Scott (Bridget) Laud, Lora (Stu) Wilson, and Melissa (Ryan) Bishop; great-grandchildren: Henry and Harper Moran, Brittany, Mason and Marshall Laud, Kate and Caroline Wilson, and Grace and Carson Bishop. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, George Lester Keay, and two sisters, Bette Dierks and Bonnie Hansen. The family wishes to thank Friendship Manor nurses, aides, and staff, Christine and her team at Compassus, and special friends, Martha, Amy, Brandy, Kevin, and Carla.
