Margaret McDermott, 88, of Moline, IL, died of natural causes on Monday, December 22, 2008, at Friendship Manor in Rock Island, IL. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at Hope United Church of Christ in Moline, on Saturday, December 27th at 11:30 a.m., with visitation from 10:00 to 11:30. A luncheon will follow the service. Arrangements are being handled by Wendt Funeral Home. Margaret Reff was born in Milwaukee, WI, on July 13, 1920, to John and Rosie (Friedl) Reff. She graduated from West Division High School in Milwaukee. She married John P. McDermott in 1944, and they moved to Moline in 1956. Her first job was at W.T. Grants, and following jobs were at The Moline Daily Dispatch, and then at East Moline Downs as a favorite ticket seller for 20 years. Margaret loved to crochet and play bingo. She treasured her ladies' card club, her four-legged companions, any flowers, chocolate, Jeopardy, and newspaper Jumbles. She was a member of the local PTA, and a volunteer at the former Franciscan Hospital for many years. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. Remaining loved ones include, sons, Patrick of Sacramento, CA, Michael of Los Angeles, CA, and Peter of Moline and his dear partner, Martha Nieto of East Moline, IL. Grandsons are Samuel and Maxwell McDermott of Chicago, and their mother, Pam McDermott of Moline. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Marian Barsch, a brother John Reff, and a granddaughter Rosie McDermott. The family greatly appreciates the FIVE STAR treatment accorded Margaret at Friendship Manor. Please make any memorial donations to your favorite charity in Margaret's name.
