Margaret E Simmons

Margaret E. Simmons, 86, of Moline, IL, passed away at her home on Monday, August 13, 2018. Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.  A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, August 17 th , at 11:00 a.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a visitation prior to the services beginning at 9:30 a.m.  Inurnment will be at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island.  Memorials may be made to the Russell and Ann Gerdin Hope Lodge in Iowa City, IA, or Memorial Christian Church in Moline. Margaret Johnson was born in Moline on August 22, 1931, to John “Nick” and Helen (Wiedeman) Johnson.  On July 25, 1953, she married Donald Simmons, who survives. Margaret retired from the Moline Public Library in 1998 after 22 years of service.  She was a member of the Memorial Christian Church in Moline. Margaret will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  There was nothing she enjoyed more than going to her children and grandchildren’s activities and being involved in their lives. In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Nancy (Mike) Knussman of East Peoria, IL; a son, Matt (Ava) Simmons of Colona, IL; a sister, Janet Price of Panora, Iowa; three grandchildren, Andy (Katie) Simmons, Jodi (Johnnie) Schwindenhammer, and Amanda (Matt) Meier; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Arliss Heist.
