Mae Arlene Klingborg was born in Marshall, MN, on May 9, 1922, the sixth of ten children of David and Anna (Carlson) Klingborg. She grew up in Marcus, IA, and attended a one-room school. When she finished the 8th grade at age twelve, she became a farm hand for her father. At eighteen, she came to Moline, and began working for Eagle Signal. She started in the machine shop, and soon became an inspector. She was at Eagle Signal for 42 years, and as a final inspector, she worked on timers that went to the moon. Mae Buchanan raised two children by herself, and devoted her life to letting them know how much she loved them. She was a wonderful example of giving of herself to make life better for others. On March 17, 1962, she married the love of her life - Moline Police Officer Thomas M. Hendricks. They had thirty-one beautiful years together, loving and supporting each other. When he died suddenly on May 1, 1993, she picked herself up, and brushed herself off, and started all over again. She devoted her time to her grandchildren, and the lights-of-her-life, her great-grandchildren. She volunteered at the Viking Club, made lap robes for the Veterans Home in Quincy, worked in her garden, and always had the coffee pot on for anyone who stopped by. For the last nine years of Mae's life, her daughter had the privilege of living with her, but age and hard work caught up, and dementia took over. The last months of her life were spent at Hope Creek in Memory Care, under the watchful eyes of the most wonderful caretakers in the world. Those left to remember this loving and caring womqan include, daughter: Diane Stanley of Moline; son: Alan (Linda) Buchanan of Camp Verde, AZ; grandchildren: Jeffrey (Michele) Stanley, and Kai (Tina) Buchanan, all of Moline, Kristy Williams of Denver, and Zack Wolfe of Arizona; great-grandchildren: Rachel and Jacob Stanley, Kaden Buchanan, D'Angelo and Leilani Williams; a sister: Violet Meincke of East Moline; a sister-in-law: Mary Klingborg of East Moline; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Tom, and her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers: Carl and Phillip Klingborg, and sisters: Helga Paulson, Mildred Pearson, Dora Warren, Donna Cherrington, June Chuich, and Lillian DeWulf.
