Lynn Wiedenmann, age 83, of East Moline, IL, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2011, at his home. Visitation will be Thursday, September 15th, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. Services will be Friday, September 16th, at 10:00 a.m., at Christ United Methodist Church, 3801 - 7th Street in East Moline. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Moline. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline. Lynn George Wiedenmann was born in Moline, on April 21, 1928, to Ludwig and Esther (Liedtke) Wiedenmann. In Geneseo, IL, on June 10, 1956, he married Violet R. Souers, who survives. He was a proud member of East Moline's United Township High School Class of 1946. He graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1950, and then acquired his PhD (with a major in Organic Chemistry and a minor in Inorganic Chemistry) and his Master of Science degree from the University of Iowa, graduating in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, and was a full-time Chemist Assistant at Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Denver, CO, from April 1955 until April 1957. He was employed by Texas-US Research Corporation in Parsippany, NJ from May 1957 until September 1960, and then came to the Rock Island Arsenal Weapons Command, Rock Island, IL, as a Research Chemist, from September 1960 until August 1969. He became a professor in 1969, and taught at Black Hawk College in Moline from 1969 until 1986, and then at Augustana College in Rock Island, from 1986 until 1988. Lynn was a 60-year member of the American Chemical Society, as well as their local treasurer, secretary, and 1965-1967 chairman, and was secretary/treasurer of the local chapter of Sigma Xi. He was Chairman of the Department of Chemistry at Black Hawk College 1972 to 1982, Board Member of East Moline District 37 from 1970 to 1973, and took part in the National Science Foundation's Summer Institute at Duke University in North Carolina. He was a published author of several technical pieces. He also was a member of the Rock Island County Historical Society, the German-American Heritage Center (where he was a life-time member and volunteer), and Christ United Methodist Church where he participated in Wesleyans, Bell Choir, Finance Committee, and was a Trustee. He was a longtime "Cardiac Rehabber" at the Pepsico Center at Augustana College. He played saxophone and piano, and enjoyed reading, photography, genealogy, woodworking, and Big Band music. In addition to his wife, Violet, survivors include, daughters: Susan (Mark) Newsome of Bettendorf, IA, Cheryl (James) Preston, and Karen Wiedenmann, all of St. Louis, MO; son: Jeffrey (Barb) Wiedenmann of Coal Valley, IL; and grandchildren: Courtney and Andrew Wiedenmann, and Matthew Newsome.
