Lorene V. Lyons, 95, of Moline, IL, died September 24, 2007, at Parkview Terrace Health Care Center, East Moline, IL. Services are Saturday, September 29th, at 10:00 A.M. at Hope United Church of Christ, 3324 41st Street, Moline, with the Rev. Parker Lewis officiating. Visitation is Friday, September 28th, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, Silvis, IL. Memorials may be made to Hope United Church of Christ, Moline. Lorene V. Nelson was born February 17, 1912, to Oscar and Clara (Bartels) Nelson in Moline, IL. On May 30, 1931, in Morrison, IL, she married Roy E. Lyons, who preceded her in death on July 18, 2000. Before her marriage, Lorene was employed as the assistant manager of the lunch counter at Woolworth's in Moline. Though mostly a fulltime homemaker, she was employed at times during her marriage at the former House and Town Women's Clothing store in downtown Moline, and the former Dairy Delite in Rock Island, IL. She and Roy joined Gordon Memorial Congregational Church February 1, 1942, and became very active in that church, where they maintained their memberships as it moved to become Plymouth-Gordon, and later, Hope United Church of Christ. Her church activities over the years included being chairman of the Cradle Roll, being chairman of the Visitation Committee, serving as coordinator of family luncheons after members' funerals, and serving for years as the treasurer of the Esther Circle. She was also a volunteer for the Churches United Food Pantry and Christian Friendliness. She was especially proud of becoming a lifetime member of the Logan Elementary School PTA. Lorene enjoyed traveling, doing crochet and embroidery projects, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, her siblings, her nieces and nephews, and their families. Survivors include, one son and daughter-in-law: Ronald and Alice Lyons, Moline; four daughters and three sons-in-law: Jeanine and Phil Burke, West Salem, OH; Linda Stein, Prattville, AL; Marsha and Jim Peterson, Rock Island; and Nancy and Mark Stevens, Moline; grandchildren: Jeff (Pat) Burke, Aurora, OH; Mona Mlekush, Rock Island; Kim (Ron) Ross, Ashland, OH; Sandra Schlorf, East Moline; Vicki Gray, Athens, GA; Scott (Nancy) Stein, Prattville, AL; Mark Stein, Prattville, AL; Margaret (Lindsay) Carroll, East Moline; Eric (Kim) Burke, Neward, OH; Drew (Liza) Peterson, Prattville, AL; Kirk (Rachel) Peterson, Ahoskie, NC; Elise (Brian) Montanari, East Hampton, CT; Brittney Stevens, Moline; and Thomas Stevens, Moline; seventeen great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Bud Workman, Moline; and seventeen nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Vernon Nelson; sisters, Edris LaDage and Shirley Wilder; and son-in-law, Donald Stein.
