Lois Bernadine Holton

April 11, 1930 — December 15, 2016

On Thursday, December 15th, we lost our beloved mother Lois Bernadine Holton. She passed peacefully at Hope Creek Care Center surrounded by her family. Bernie was born on April 11, 1930 in New Boston, Ill. one of four children to John and Eloise Welch. She grew up and lived in New Boston until she married Charles E Holton on August 17, 1947. They were married 66 years before his passing in 2014. She and Charles lived in the house they built in Moline for 48 years. Bernie retired from Turn-style/Venture in Moline as Receiving Manager. Being the active person she was she went back to work for Hy-Vee stores in Davenport where she retired for the second time. Bernie loved to fish and garden. Weekends always found her and Charles in Bagley, Wisconsin at their fishing camp they owned for over 40 years. It was a favorite spot to have their family visit for long weekends or vacations. Nothing pleased her more than to out fish her husband. Bernie was also a gardener extraordinaire; every year she put in a large garden which fed her family and friends many a wonderful meal. Her green thumb also extended to her flower beds where bouquets could always be picked. Bernie leaves behind five children, Marcia (Norman) Anderson of Hot Springs Village, Ar., Janice (Bruce) Stickell of Milan Ill., Carol (Darrel) Stark of Moline, Ill., Chuck & Nancy Holton of Jacksonville Fla., and Kathleen Hull of Moline, Ill. She also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and a sister, Wilma Garrett of Paso Robles, Cal. Preceding Bernie in death was her husband, Charles Holton, her parents, John and Eloise Welch, a grandson, Chad Gibbs, a sister, Marjorie Welch, and a brother, William (Bud) Welch. It is with great admiration and love we lay our mother to rest with her beloved husband at the Rock Island Arsenal. She will remembered by her children, grandchildren and family with the fondest of memories. The family extends a special thank you to Hope Creek Care Center and to the staff of Hospice Compassus. Services will be Monday, December 19th, at 12:00 noon, with a two-hour visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. There will be a private family burial after the service. Memorials may be made to Hope Creek Memory Care or to Hospice Compassus.
