Lavona Laverdierre, 76, of Moline, IL, passed away Friday, October 30, 2015, at her home. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 3rd, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Wednesday, November 4th, at 10:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1608 – 13th Street in Moline. Burial will be at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 246 of Moline. Memorials may be made to the Senior Choir at Sacred Heart Church, or to American Legion Post #246. Lavona Grace Johnson was born in Rock Island on July 14, 1939, to Robert J. and Alberta (Wolfe) Johnson. On July 29, 1960, in Cherry Point, NC, she married Joseph Earl Laverdierre, who preceded her in death March 3, 2014. Before becoming a homemaker, she served in the U.S. Marine Corp from July, 1957 to July 1960, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal. Lavona enjoyed bowling and crafts. She was active in Girl Scouting, and the Willard School PTA, and sang in the church choir. She loved being a mother and grandmother to all, even to those that weren’t part of her family. Survivors include daughters, Alberta (Steve) Rocker of Belleville, IL, Rosann (Allen) Trout of Hillsdale, IL, and Roberta Laverdierre, of Milan, IL; a brother Paul Johnson of Rock Island; three grandchildren, James and Danny Rocker, and Alexis Rae Laverdierre; and a great-grandson Mason Daniel Rocker. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Rosann Johnson.
