Kent J. Reichenberg, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024, in his hometown of Moline, IL, at the age of 80. Kent's journey began in Moline on February 21, 1944, the loving son of John F. and Ruth (Smith) Reichenberg, and it was in this same community that he would build a life filled with love, hard work, and dedication.
Kent's devotion to his family was evident from the very beginning. He married the love of his life, Cheryl Sheldon, on May 4, 1963, at Salem Lutheran Church in their hometown. Their 61-year marriage was a testament to their unyielding love and commitment to each other. Together, they raised a daughter, Brenda (Roger) Cox of Dubuque, IA, and a son, Shane (Lynn) Reichenberg of Brunswick, GA, who brought great joy and pride into Kent's life. His legacy continued to flourish through his cherished grandchildren, Neko, Fabien, D'Angelo, Andre, Mario, Alexandra, and Brianna, and great-grandchildren, Arabella and Lylah, all of whom he adored. Kent's sister, Carolyn Brown of Seattle, WA, will remember her brother for his loving nature and their special bond.
After graduating high school, Kent proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. This experience instilled in him the values of honor and discipline he carried throughout his life. Following his service, Kent returned to Moline to embark on a more than four decades-long career. As a skilled bricklayer with the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, Kent's craftsmanship and dedication to his trade were evident in every project he undertook.
As we bid farewell to Kent J. Reichenberg, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the time we spent with him and the memories we created together. His spirit, love, and the lessons he taught us will continue to guide us. Kent's life was a beautiful mosaic of moments that touched many, and his memory will be cherished forever.
Kent's life was a journey of love, labor, and legacy, and as we reflect on the path he traveled, we are reminded of the indelible mark he left on our hearts. May he rest in peace, knowing that his story does not end here but continues through the lives of those he loved and influenced.
Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family for a memorial monument.
