Kenneth M. Cary, 73, of East Moline, IL, died Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus in Silvis, IL. Visitation will be Friday, January 27th, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. Services will be Saturday, January 28th, at 11:00 a.m., at First Christian Church, 1826 - 16th Street, Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Moline. Kenneth Miles Cary was born in Silvis, IL, on October 17, 1938, to Virgil and Lucille (Kizer) Cary. On August 25, 1957, in Moline, he married Mary Kay Scott, who survives. He graduated from United Township High School, and attended Augustana College. After working for International Harvester Co East Moline Works, he began employment with the Moline Post Office on January 23, 1960, as a substitute letter carrier. He advanced to permanent carrier, and then Foreman of Mails. On June 23, 1972, he became Postmaster of Erie, IL, where he remained until his retirement on February 28, 1979. The family moved from Silvis to Erie when Kenneth became the postmaster, and during his stay in Erie, he was a member of the Erie Christian Church, and Erie Lions Club, and was on the Board of the Erie Library. After moving back to East Moline in 1988, he returned his membership back to the First Christian Church, and for a period of time, was church treasurer, was a member of the choir, and was a member of the Friendship Class, where he served at President and treasurer. His passions in life, besides his family, were reading, singing in the choir, singing solos, and playing bridge with good friends on Tuesday nights at the Village Inn on First Street in Moline. In addition to his wife, Mary Kay, survivors include: daughters, Dawn (Gary) Meyer of Morrison, IL and Stephanie (Joel) Bjork of East Moline; son, Patrick (Cheryl) Cary of Fishers, IN; grandchildren, Daniel (Ting-Fang) Meyer of Macomb, IL, David (Anna Elfstrom) Meyer of San Francisco, CA, Julie (Josh Angusich) Meyer of Rock Island, IL, Josh, Sean, and Hayley Bjork of East Moline, Michael Cary of Lansing, MI, and Christopher Cary and Elisabeth Cary of Fishers, IN; a great-grandchild, Ocean Cooper; sister, Elaine (Jerry Sivertson) DeDecker; sisters-in-law, Peggy (Joe) Fosdyck, Nancy Smith, and Louise Hellstom; brother-in-law, Jim (Clevelan) Scott; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Patricia Ellison, and a brother Bill Cary.
