Keith Starkweather, 87, of Moline, IL, passed away at his home on Monday, September 19, 2011. Services will be Wednesday, September 21st, at 1:30 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a visitation from 11:30 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will be in National Cemetery or Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to Rock Island County Animal Care and Control in Moline, IL, or the Quad City Animal Welfare Center in Milan, IL. Keith E. Starkweather was born in Greene, IA, on December 20, 1923, to Archie and Mary Fern (Hood) Starkweather. He attended school in Moline. In June of 1946, in Rock Island, he married Kathleen M. Kay, who died in 1975. Later, on April 26, 1980, he married Marilyn Larsen, who preceded him in death on June 3, 1996. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, receiving a Purple Heart during the campaign in Italy. He retired December 30, 1977, after 30 years, as an assembler for John Deere Harvester. He was a member of Friends Circle Club, and enjoyed chess, the stockmarket, and traveling. He loved archery, and competed state-wide. He especially loved his faithful dog, Rerun. He is survived by a son: O'Brian Starkweather of Moline; daughters: Sally (Jim) McGory of Orion, IL, and Paula Kay of Moline; a sister: Marilyn Schultz of Evanston, IL; grandchildren: Daren James, Christopher James, Suzanne Ogurek, and Samantha LaVigne; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Gay and "Hode" Starkweather.
