Katherine L Heinz

Katherine Louise (Wales) Heinz passed into heaven on June 25, 2009 at St. Joseph Village, Manhattan, KS. Katherine was born in Moline, Illinois on November 19, 1916. She was the second daughter of Elmer and Louise (Williamson) Wales. Katherine attended Sacred Heart grade school, and graduated from the Villa De Chantal in 1935. She was captain of her basketball team her senior year. Katherine served as president of the Villa De Chantal Alumni Association, and remained active for many years. She maintained a relationship with many of her teachers from the Sisters of the Visitation in Minnesota and Missouri. Katherine was employed by Kuehne Loan Company and then by A-1 Rental in Moline, until retiring in 1989. She enjoyed playing bridge, spending summers with her grandchildren, volunteering at Trinity Medical Center gift shop, and going to lunch and other outings with her sisters. Katherine was united in marriage to Donald Joseph Heinz in February of 1945 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Moline. He preceded her in death October 1986. She is also preceded by her parents, a sister: Virginia (Wales) Boyce, and a brother: Thomas Wales. Katherine leaves behind her only son: Charles Thomas Heinz of Manhattan, KS; grandson: Jason Heinz and partner Beth Longhofer of Davenport, IA; granddaughter: Emily (Heinz) Chapman and husband Adam Chapman of Fort Riley, KS; grandson: Joshua Heinz and wife Mindy (Lane) Heinz of Moline, IL; eight great-grandsons: Joshua Lane, Donald Lane, Anthony Waldron, Brandon Lane, Skyler Lane, Auston Korszeniewski, Cameron Heinz, and Trey Heinz; two great-great-grandsons: Kegan Lane and Calob Lane; two sisters: Harriet Brightman of Moline, IL and Bette Resser of Moline, IL; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and beloved friends. The family will receive friends at Wendt Funeral Home, 1811 - 15th Street Place, Moline, IL. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Liturgy Service at 7:00 p.m.. Catholic Funeral Service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1311 - 17th Avenue, Moline, on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Rock Island, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Care Domestic Violence Shelter, 2209 Third Avenue, Rock Island, IL 61201.
