Joseph T Driscal

March 2, 1964 — May 26, 2011

Joe T. Driscal, 47, of Moline, IL, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Genesis East Hospital in Davenport, IA. A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 31st, at First Congregational Church, 2201 - 7th Avenue, Moline, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with the memorial service immediately following. Arrangements are being handled by Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Memorials may be made to the Driscal children c/o Mrs. Driscal, 1551 - 34th Ave, Moline, IL 61265. Joe was born on March 2, 1964, at Kapalani Hospital, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the wonderful son of Robert & Darlene, and loyal brother to Karen and Steve Driscal. Joe attended schools in San Jose, California. He never met a sport he did not like or a ball he did not hit. He played soccer, golf, baseball, and football. Joe played hockey from preschool to college, and went on to play for the Fresno Falcons. He was a California State Wrestler, and won a wrestling scholarship to college. He graduated from San Jose State University. Joe married Frances Mahar in a beautiful candlelit service in Lake Tahoe on December 19th, 1992. They moved to Moline in 1993, and Joe enthusiastically adopted the Moline Maroons with the help of his best friend and father-in-law, Cork Mahar. Joe coached hockey, baseball, football, basketball, and soccer, and mentored and taught at First Congregational Church. Joe worked as a Projects Manager in the Recycling Division at Alter Co. in Davenport, IA. He was a dedicated husband and father. He was so proud when his son, Abe, nominated athlete of the year in 2010, played football, wrestled and was on the trackteam for Moline High School. He was devoted to daughter Maggie, who excels in softball, soccer, volleyball, writing, painting, honors choir, and church choir. Together they never missed a dad-daughter dance. Joe, with his easy congeniality, enjoyed his friends and extended family. He had a great appreciation of nature, and felt fortunate to live in Prospect Park. Joe loved his family above all else. He told great stories and gave hugs that you knew he meant. Anyone who knew Joe loved him. It was a privilege and honor to have known him. Joe is survived by his wife, France; his children, Abraham and Margaret, both at home; his father Robert Driscal, Penn Valley, CA; brother Steve Driscal, Boulder Creek, CA, and sister Karen Howie, Lake Tahoe, CA; and many in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Darlene.
