Joseph G. Baker

Joseph "Joe" Baker, 84, of Moline, IL, went home to be with his savior on Thursday, January 12, 2023.

Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 pm, with a visitation starting at 1:00 pm before the service on January 18, 2023, at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, IL.

Memorials may be made to Rescued, 2105 16th Street, Moline, IL.

Joe was born on September 16, 1938, in Davenport, IA, to Joseph and Esther (Grommell) Baker. He was married to Beverly (Stuart) Baker for 47 years.

He was a child of God and loved his family and his church family at Edgewood Baptist Church, too. Joe enjoyed his church, watching sports, and reading the newspaper, and he adored his dog, Annie.

As a young boy, he began his career as a bag boy, working his way up to owning his own grocery store for 17 years, Joevan Foods, in Bettendorf, IA, retiring in 2001. Joe was a lifelong grocer, and it was forever in his heart, so much so that he would look at every grocery ad front to back throughout his retirement.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Bev, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
