Joseph Alfred Moreau was born November 16, 1943, to Alphonse "Henri" and Marie (Earing) Moreau in St. Charles, IL, the youngest of 10 children. Fred graduated from high school and studied briefly at Techny Seminary before honorable service in the Navy as a Seabee during the Vietnam Campaign in Danang Vietnam. Fred served from 1966-1968 and remained in the Naval Reserves until 1972. He flew to Washington DC to see the monuments erected for his service during an Honor Flight in April 2018.
Fred was employed as a sales person for electronic engineering by Eaton corporation, Honeywell INC, and AVG, until retirement. During the late 1970’s till mid 1980’s he was very involved in St. Alexander’s Parrish in Villa Park, IL where he was a beloved religious education instructor for children on the weekends.
In the mid 1990’s Fred moved to Davenport, IA, where he resided, worked, volunteered and advocated for improvements in the lives of senior citizens. Fred enjoyed many activities, reading, art, creating, designing, and exploring nature. Fred loved the culture Davenport had to offer as well as the scene of the Mississippi River from his apartment, walking or riding his bicycle on the many paths, until no longer able to physically. Fred most recently resided at the IVY, now known as Beacon of Hope in Davenport.
He is survived by his children, Sandra Moreau, Peter (Gloria) Moreau, Matthew Moreau, Patricia "Trisha" (Nick) Shaw, and Joseph (Anna) Moreau, grandchildren; Liam Shaw, Joey Moreau, Cullen Moreau, step-grandfather to Madison Rojas, sisters; Lucy, Joan, and Marie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Tom, Edward, and Peter, sisters; Judy, Lorraine, and Teresa.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the administration and staff of the Ivy for being Fred’s home and surrogate family during the pandemic. The family would also like to thank Beacon of Hope Hospice and his Case Manger Patches, who lovingly cared for Fred during the last week of his life and allowed him to journey home to be with his family and at rest in God.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and express online condolences at wendtfuneralhome.com.
