Joseph Laverdierre, 77, of Moline, IL, died Monday, March 3, 2014, at UnityPoint/Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island, IL. A Rosary will be held Thursday, March 6th, at 3:30 p.m., with a visitation from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Friday, March 7th, at 1:00 p.m., at Sacred Heart Church, 1307 - 17th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL, with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post #246 of Moline. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church, or to American Legion Post #246. Joseph Earl Laverdierre was born in Clifton Park, NY, on December 16, 1936, to George and Florida (Verchereau) Laverdierre. On July 29, 1960, in Cherry Point, NC, he married Lavona Grace Johnson, who survives. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves in January of 1954. He was transferred to active duty in August of that year, where he remained until his retirement in August of 1974, attaining the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He enjoyed archery, hunting, and fishing, and especially loved time with his family. In addition to his wife, Lavona, survivors include: three daughters: Alberta (Stephen) Rocker of Belleville, IL, Rosann (Allen) Trout of Hillsdale, IL, and Joann Laverdierre of Milan, IL; a granddaughter: Alexis Laverdierre; two grandsons: Danny and James Rocker; and a great-grandson Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents.
