Jon S. Overfield Sr., known affectionately as Jon to his friends and family, passed away suddenly on January 13, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on December 23, 1957, in Washington, IA, to proud parents Norlan and Diane Overfield. Jon's early years were filled with the warmth of a loving family, which set the foundation for the wonderful life he would lead.
In 1976, Jon married his high school sweetheart, Darcy Robertson, marking the beginning of a beautiful partnership that would last nearly five decades. Their union was blessed with three children: Jon Jr., Thomas, and Sarah, who in turn filled Jon's life with the joy of grandchildren: Gabi, Connor, Leighland, Kaylee, Evan, and Tyler. Jon's role as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather was the one he cherished most, always there to support, teach, and, of course, entertain with a joke or two.
Jon's passion for his work was evident to all who knew him. After graduating from Davenport West in 1976, he joined the family business, Overfield’s Standard, as a partner and owner/operator alongside his father and brothers, David and Steven. For 21 years, he dedicated himself to the business until he transitioned to his final position as a service manager at P&K Midwest in Silvis, IL. There, his intelligence and friendly nature made him a favorite among colleagues and customers alike.
His interest in showing dogs was more than just a hobby; it was a shared adventure with his wife Darcy, spanning approximately 20 years. Together, they traveled, competed, and celebrated their mutual love for canines, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Jon's sense of humor was ever-present, whether at a dog show or simply spending time with friends and family. He often claimed to be the funniest person in the world—a title few would dispute.
Jon's love for music was another cornerstone of his life, providing a soundtrack to the many moments he shared with loved ones. His laughter, intelligence, and friendly demeanor were the hallmarks of his personality, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darcy; his children, Jon Jr., Thomas (Royanne), and Sarah; his grandchildren; his sister, Christine Wheeler (Ronald); his brother, David (Misty) Overfield; and his extended family, Uncle Ken Hall and Aunt Susan Newman. Jon was preceded in death by his mother, Diane, father, Norlan, and brother, Steven.
Jon's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of laughter, love, and dedication to family and friends will continue to inspire. His life was a testament to the power of a positive spirit and the impact one person can have on the lives of many. Jon S. Overfield Sr. will be dearly missed, but his memory will live on as a beacon of joy and fellowship for all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Instead of flowers or trees, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, a charity Jon was passionate about.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and express condolences on his Memory Page at wendtfuneralhome.com.
