Jon L. Christiansen, 79, of Moline, IL, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017, at Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA, after a nine-year battle with cancer. Cremation rites have been accorded. As he wished, a celebration of life will be held for friends and relatives at Short Hills Country Club, East Moline, IL, on Sunday, August 27th, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Moline Booster Club, 2728 – 41st Street, Moline, IL 61265, in the name of Jon L. Christiansen to benefit Moline High School Athletics. Jon was born in Moline on August 21, 1937, son of L. R. and Harriett (Eckdahl) Christiansen. He graduated from Moline High School, and attained his Bachelor’s Degree from Drake University and Augustana College. He served in the U. S. Air National Guard. On June 30, 1962, in Moline, he married Heidi Radik of Moline. Jon began his career at L.R. Christiansen Company in Moline, working his way up to President. He then turned his attention to real estate and was instrumental in revitalizing the old International Harvester Farmall Plant into the Quad City Industrial Center. Along with his brother, Jim, they formed L.R.C. Developers and L.R.C. Real Estate Companies. He most recently was CEO of L.R.C. Real Estate, Rock Island. He held memberships in the following organizations: Rotary, Paul Harris Foundation, DARI, Renew Moline, Short Hills Country Club, Bay Colony Beach Club in Naples, FL, and Boot Lake Home Owners Association in Eagle River WI. He was on the board of the YMCA, Salvation Army, and First Federal Savings and Loan. Jon was a longtime winter resident of Naples, FL, and enjoyed vacationing in the summer in Eagle River, WI. He was an avid tennis player for many years, playing at the former South Park Tennis Club in Moline, and Pelican Bay and Bay Colony Clubs in Naples, FL. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed attending and photographing his grandsons sporting events and activities. In addition to Heidi, his wife of over fifty-five years, survivors include his daughter, Kimber (Dan) Frieden of Moline; a brother, Jim (Pat) Christiansen of Moline; grandsons, Ben and Ryan Frieden; nieces, Helle Getz, Jill (Dave) Latting, Sue (Charlie) Hintz; and a nephew, Scott (Kami) Christiansen. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family extends special thanks to the staff at Clarissa Cook Hospice House.
