Johnie R Akins

Johnie R. Akins, 77, of Moline, IL. died on Saturday, January 12, 2008, at Trinity Medical Center West in Rock Island, IL. Johnie R. Akins was born on March 16, 1930, to Floyd and Rosa (Williams) Akins in Guin, AL. He married Darline R. Miljush on February 14, 1998, in East Moline, IL. He served in the Navy, during the Korean Conflict, from 1947 - 1951, attached to the Fire Controllers. He retired April 1, 1990, after 30 years, as a Electrician for the Iowa Interstate Railroad. He was a member of New Testament Baptist Church , East Moline, IL and American Legion Post #246 in Moline. Johnie enjoyed fishing, and started bowling in 1956 and has loved it ever since. Visitation will be Sunday, January 13th, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be held on Monday, January 14th at 12 Noon at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in Silvis, IL. Memorials may be made to New Testament Baptist Church in East Moline, IL, or to the American Cancer Association. Survivors include: his wife; two sons: Jerry (Judy) Robinson of Coal Valley, IL., and Robert Robinson of Moline, IL.; a step-son: Joe (Sue) Miljush of Moline; a sister: Wenora Davis of Tifton, GA.; a son-in-law: Roy Cherrington of Moline; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and one brother, all of Georgia; and a step-daughter, Janice Cherrington.
