John Madsen, a kind and honorable gentleman, took his special place in heaven on November 14, 2012. Services will be at Wendt Funeral Home on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 11 AM with visitation 1 hour before the service. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery in Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock Island Girls Softball or Gloria Dei Presbyterian Church. John Madsen was born in Clinton County, Iowa on August 22, 1915, to Christian and Ena Reggelsen Madsen. He graduated from Lyndon High School, where he excelled in baseball and basketball, and Brown Business College. John was a Supply Systems Analyst at the Rock Island Arsenal retiring in 1971. He was an active church member of Gloria Dei Presbyterian Church in Rock Island, serving as trustee and various other offices. He was an avid fisherman and an amazing gardener who loved to be outside. Above all, he was an incredibly devoted husband, father, and grandfather. John met the love of his life, Mary Cramer, in Rock Island and they were married June 29, 1943. He is survived by his wife, son, John C. (Linda), Rock Island, daughter, Susan (Mark) Edwards, Phoenix, AZ, grandchildren: Joli (Greg), Anne (Teddy), Christy (Jeremy), Daniel, and great-granddaughter to arrive in April. Also surviving are sisters Marie Bowen and Margaret O'Brien, and brother, Robert Madsen, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, sister, Helen Dunlap, and two brothers, Hans and Ralph. The family wishes to thank the staff of Amber Ridge Memory Care for their tender care of John and special thanks to Trinity Hospice, especially Angel and Michelle. Finally, to Kim Block, love and thanks always for your help and thoughtfulness.
