John H. Brown, age 86, of Moline, IL. died Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf, IA. Services will be Thursday, January 14th, at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4107 - 21st Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, IL, with Military Honors accorded by American Legion Post #246. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Organ Fund. John Hull Brown, Jr, was born in Moline on August 22, 1923, to John and Clella (Walker) Brown. In 1943, in Pensacola, FL, he married Monica A. Sinkus, who died in January, 1997. He then married Betty Reiman on July 10, 1999, in Moline, IL. He was a member of the Moline High School Class of 1942, and he served in the U.S. Navy as during World War II. He was employed as a Yard Master for the Rock Island Lines Railroad, retiring in 1983, after 30 years. For a time, after his retirement, he worked for the Iowa Railroads. He was a member of American Legion Post #246. He was a member of the Rock Island Railroad Retirees, and N.A.R.V.E. He enjoyed all sports, especially fishing. In addition to his wife, Betty, survivors include: four daughters: Patti (Terri) Hawkins and Nancy (Bill) Jordan, both of Surprise, AZ, Joyce (Tom) Langford of Las Vegas, NV, and Shirley (Mike) Waters of Moline; a son: John (Jodi) Brown III of Lone Tree, IA; four stepdaughters: Jennifer (Craig) Hollenback of Bettendorf, IA, Christine (Jeff) Murphy of Scottsdale, AZ, Dierdre (Jeff) Thorn of East Moline, and Michaelle (Ron) Willis of Moline; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
