John "Jack" Dudley Hunter, Esq., of Rock Island, IL, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014, at UnityPoint/Trinity 7th Street in Moline, IL, at the age of 83. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 27th, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Thursday, August 28th, at 11:00 a.m., at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 2324 – 18th Avenue, Rock Island. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Rock Island. Jack was born in Burgess, IL, on April 17, 1931, to William N. and Letah (Whitaker) Hunter. He married Sherre Hlavaty on October 8, 1966, in Bettendorf, IA. He was a member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Rock Island. He was employed by the Rock Island Park Board and K’nees Florists. He became a social worker and worked for the Illinois Department of Corrections, Illinois Youth Commission on Delinquency Prevention for 27 years. In 1979, the State of Illinois honored him as Man of the Year for his dedication and hard work. Following that, at the age of 50, he started his own business, and never did retire. In addition to his wife, Sherre, survivors include John D. Hunter II and wife Yumi, of Redondo Beach, CA; and Wendy Hunter Magdlen and husband Robert Magdlen, of Hollywood Hills, CA; brother James “Dick” Hunter of Rock Island; and grandchildren: Cayenne, Alera, and Luella Magdlen. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Hunter Rolfe, and his brother, William N Hunter, Jr. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
