John David Martin

John Martin, 82, of Moline, IL, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, IL. Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 24th, at 11:00 a.m., at First Congregational Church, 2201 - 7th Avenue, Moline, with Rev. Allen Mothershed officiating. Inurnment will be in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #246. Arrangements are being handled by Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. John David Martin was born in Burlington, IA, on February 27, 1927, to David and Emily (Diehl) Martin. In 1953, in Champaign, IL, he married Mary Louise Frank, who preceded him in death October 11, 1991. Children born to this union are David, Theodore, Frank, and John P. Martin. On April 4, 1992, in Moline, he married Patricia Norman, who survives, as do her children, Nancy H. Erickson and Marie J. Gibbs. Other survivors include thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and a sister. Mr. Martin served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He was then sent to Korea in 1950 and 1951. He was a chartered financial analyst, having attended seminars at Northwestern University and Harvard University. He was employed at First Midwest Bank in Moline, as a trust investment officer and as an Assistant Vice President. He retired from First Midwest Bank in 1990. He was very civic-minded, having been active in First Congregational Church in Moline, the Illowa Council of Boy Scouts of America, the Rock Island County Historical Society, and the Moline Rotary Club.
