Joanne E. Loufek, 74, of Moline, IL, died Monday, May 12, 2008, at Trinity Medical Center West in Rock Island, IL. Joanne E. Loufek was born in Davenport, IA, on December 23, 1933, to Robert and Dorothy (Dollerhide) Loufek. She graduated with Davenport High School Class of 1952, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Augustana College in Rock Island in 1956, with an emphasis in Science. She began work in 1974, at Metropolitan Medical Laboratory, as a phlebotomist, medical technician, and supervisor of the Hematology lab, retiring in 1997. She lived most of her life in Moline. Joanne was an active member of Moline Chapter IS of P.E.O; the Two Rivers YMCA; and the First Congregational Church in Moline, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school to pre-schoolers, participated in the Wednesday Morning Bible Study Group, and was a member of the Congregators. She was a member of the Plus 60 Group, taking advantage of many travel excursions. She was an enthusiastic and inquisitive traveler to destinations both near and far. In addition to enjoying theater and musical performances, she enjoyed exploring Paris, Scandinavia, Spain, and, especially Africa, a trip that was particularly meaningful to her. She was interested in the creative arts, especially interior design, and received design training in Chicago. She was also an accomplished needleworker and artist, and earlier owned a needlework shop in Moline. Joanne shared her talents with her church, creating seasonal needlepoint paraments to enhance worship. Services will be held Monday, May 19, 2008, at 1:30 p.m., at First Congregational Church in Moline. Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery in Davenport, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Congregational Church in Moline. Survivors include: her sister, Elizabeth Ann.
