James L. Johnson, 78, of East Moline, IL, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017, at Avonlea Cottage of the Quad Cities in Milan, IL. Services will be Monday, February 6th, at 4:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a two-hour visitation prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Cremation rites will then be accorded, and inurnment of the ashes will be at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island, IL, on Friday, February 10th. Those wishing to attend the graveside service should be at Wendt Funeral Home by 12:45 p.m. to be included in the procession. James was born February 28, 1938, in Moline, to Leslie C. and Ina (Stephenson) Johnson. On March 11, 1966, in Milan, he married Barbara Manthe Castagnoli. He enlisted with the U.S. Air Force, and was a carpenter stationed in Keflavik, Iceland, and the honorably discharged. James worked for A.D.T. for twenty-seven years, and later worked for Menards in Moline for eighteen years before he retired. Even after his retirement, people around town would still refer to him as “the Menards guy”. In addition to his wife, Barbara, survivors include two sons, Russell (Tammy) Castagnoli of Coal Valley, IL, and Steve Castagnoli of Atkinson, IL; and six grandchildren: Sean of Phoenix, AZ, Eric of Davenport, IA, Zachary of Rock Island, IL, Taylor of Canton, IL, Madisyn of St. Louis, MO, and Alexandra of Misaswa, Japan. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Richard.
