James E. Allemeier, 86, of Moline, died Wednesday July 6, 2022, at Bickford Cottage, Davenport, Iowa.
Funeral service will be on Monday, July 11, 2022, 10 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 3145 31st Ave. Rock Island, IL. Visitation is 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Sunday, July 10,2022, at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline. Interment will be at a later date.
Memorials may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church Angel Fund.
James was born March 3, 1936 in Maumee, OH, the son of E. Karl Allemeier and Myrtle Allemeier. He graduated from Maumee High School and Ohio Wesleyan University. He spent several years working in the insurance business in Denver, Colorado where he met Marguerite Ann Wright, who he married in 1964.
He was called to the Episcopal Church and graduated from Seabury-Western Seminary in Evanston, IL. He served at churches in Phoenix, AZ. and Downers Grove, IL, before being called to Christ Episcopal Church in Moline in 1972. He served as rector for Christ Church until his retirement in 2001.
After retirement, James and another retired Episcopal priest, Lawrence Larson, founded All Saints Episcopal Church where they served in voluntary capacities until a full-time priest could be called. James visited the Holy Land on two occasions but counted visiting Africa as his favorite trip. He loved dogs and coffee and was a long-time fisherman, trekking to northern Minnesota and Canada on several occasions.
James is survived by his wife, Marguerite, Moline, and sons J. Karl (Jana) Allemeier, Madison, WI.; Kurt Allemeier, Rock Island; John(Susan) Allemeier, Harrisonburg, VA.; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
