James Charles Monteyne

James Monteyne, 77, of Moline, IL, died Saturday, August 25, 2012 at his home. Visitation will be Monday, August 27th, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Tuesday, August 28th, at 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home, with a two-hour visitation from 11:00 a.m. untiil time of the service. Burial will be in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island, IL. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post #246. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established at a later date. James Charles Monteyne was born in Moline on July 11, 1935, to Gerard and Violet (Crawford) Monteyne. On September 21, 1957, in Moline, he married Bardeen Gasper. He graduated from Moline High School, and received an associates degree from University of Houston Structural Engineering School. After serving from 1952 to 1953 in the U.S. Marine Reserves, he served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1957, flying helicopters that supported the MASH hospitals in Korea. Jim was an officer with the Moline Police Department from 1959 until retiring from the MPD as a Detective in 1967. He then was employed by Dewey Portland Cement, Builders Sales & Service Co, Continental Restaurant Systems (owners of the Boars Head chain), and the Estes Company. He retired in 1990 as Superintendent of Inspections for the City of Moline, and started his own consulting business. He was also Moline 2nd Ward alderman for two years. He was a member and Trustee of Friends Circle for seven years, the International Association of Building Inspectors for twelve years, and was a past-president of the Mississippi Valley Inspectors Association. He enjoyed fishing, making fishing lures, hunting, gardening, all things that required being out-of-doors, and reading. Including his wife, Bardeen, he is survived by: daughter, Patrice (Matt) Jett of Davenport, IA; son, Sean (Amanda) Monteyne of Quincy, IL; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for their care and support.
