Jacob Carter, 38, of Moline, IL, died Friday, May 6, 2011, in Arizona. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 18th, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 19th, at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island, IL. Military Rites will be provided by American Legion Post #246. Jacob Richard Carter was born in Grand Junction, CO, on November 1, 1972, to Richard Carter and Terry (Greene) Carter Scott. He attended United Township High School, Black Hawk College, Trinity College of Nursing & Allied Health, and graduated from the Illinois Fire Service Institute. He served in the U.S. Army from 1991 until 1993. He was employed as a firefighter for the Moline Fire Department since 2002. Previously, he had worked for Trinity Ambulance Services, and the Plasma Center in Rock Island. He was a member of the Illinois Association of Fire Fighters. He was an avid fan of the Raiders and the Cubs. Jacob had a sarcastic wit appreciated by his friends. He treasured his children and enjoyed time spent with them. Jacob loved music, and had a poet's soul. He was artistic, compassionate, gentle, and dedicated to his firefighter brothers and sisters, and the job he loved. He loved the mountains, the ocean, and the solitude and peace he found in nature. Jake will be terribly missed by his family, friends, co-workers, and those whose lives he touched while serving as a firefighter and paramedic. He is survived by his parents, David and Terry Scott of Bettendorf, IA, and Richard Carter of Laramie, WY; a brother, Spencer Scott of Bettendorf; and four children, Ian, Noah, Emily, and Gabriel Carter, all of Milan, IL; grandmother, Marlyn Hodson of Moline; aunts and uncles: Tim (Judy) Greene of Moline, Trudy (John) Knaack of Moline, Tom (Wendy) Greene of Appleton, WI, Tammy Greene of DeKalb, IL, and Sam (Veronika) Greene of Eureka, CA, cousins: Jennifer Zambrano, Sara Miller, Heather Greene, Aaron Greene, and Addison Greene; and very special friend Sara Kiefer, and her family. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Samuel Greene. Memorials may be made to the Jacob Carter Memorial Fund at U.S.Bank in Rock Island.
