Irving “Zeke” Anderson, Jr, 87, of Moline, IL, passed away Friday, January 16, 2015, at UnityPoint-Trinity West in Rock Island, IL. A visitation will be held Monday, January 19th, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a Masonic Service beginning at 7:00. Services will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 20th, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island, IL, with an Honor Guard from American Legion Post #246 of Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Zeke Anderson was born in Moline on May 31, 1927, to Irving and Jessie (Settle) Anderson. On January 23, 1954, in East Moline, IL, he married Maurine S. VanGoethem, who preceded him in death June 15, 2014. Zeke graduated from Moline High School, and served in the U.S. Navy in WWII, from June 1944 until June 1946. He was employed by International Harvester Company from 1943 until his retirement in 1981. He held memberships in Doric Lodge 319, Scottish Rite, America Legion, Viking Club, Svithiod Club, Cardinal Fan Club, Moline VFW, and the 40/8 Club. He was a past Commander of Moline Legion Post 246. Zeke was responsible for bringing Moline Legion baseball to the community, and served as General Manager from 1950 to 1977. He enjoyed golf, and being involved in tab collection for the Shriners. Survivors include a son, Irving (Becki) Anderson III of Taylor Ridge, IL; grandchildren, Taylor Anderson and Reese Anderson; sisters-in-law, Mary McCully, Shirley Schneekloth, and Sue Hafner; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a brother, and a sister.
