Irvan W. Gellerstedt, 87, of Moline, IL, died Friday, August 7, 2009, at Heartland Health Care Center in Moline. Services will be Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at 1:30 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with visitation from 12:00 noon until time of the service. Burial will be at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #246 of Moline. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center in Milan, IL, or to the First Christian Church in Moline. Irvan W. Gellerstedt was born in Moline on January 30, 1922, to Carl "Poyk" and Carolyn (Nelson) Gellerstedt. On July 3, 1943, in Missouri, he married Helen Summers, who preceded him in death January 27, 2005. He served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Marine Air Corps during WWII. He retired after many years, as a sales engineer for Williams & White Company in Moline. He was a member of First Christian Church in Moline, and enjoyed boating. Survivors include: a brother: Keith (Marie) Gellerstedt of Moline; several nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Chet and Kenneth Gellerstedt.
