Irene Alice Griberg

Irene A. Griberg, 93, of Moline, IL, passed away Friday, April 8, 2011, at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus in Silvis. Services will be Wednesday, April 13th, at 3:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with a one-hour visitation prior to the service. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Irene Alice Blohm was born in Winsted, CT, on August 12, 1917, to Robert and Ruth (Mallison) Blohm. On June 26, 1937, in Moline, she married Tom Griberg, who preceded her in death in 1970. She worked in the Blackhawk College library from 1969 until 1984. For 20 years, she was a volunteer Hospice Worker at Lutheran Hospital, and for a time, was a houseparent at Bethany Home. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, and served with the Pastoral Partners, belonged to the Deborah Circle, and was a member of the Happy Hookers Sewing Group. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 13 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. Survivors include her daughter: Virginia Hungate of Peoria, IL; grandchildren: Kris Hungate of Corpus Christi, TX, Betsy Harkness of Moberly, MO, and Bill (Phebe) Hungate of Viera, FL; and great-grandchildren: Adam and Olivia of Viera, FL. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter: Jari Lynne Griberg, and a brother: Carl Blohm. Memorials may be made to Quad City Animal Welfare Center in Milan, IL, or to Calvary Lutheran Church.
