Jeanne Koutsky, 91, of Rock Island, IL, formerly of Moline, IL, passed away Monday, June 16, 2014, at Friendship Manor in Rock Island. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 19th, from 4 pm until 7 pm, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Friday, June 20th, at 10:30 am, at the funeral home, with burial in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline. Ila Jeanne Smith was born on December 9, 1922, the youngest daughter of Hugh and Myrtle (Ingram) Smith, in Stronghurst, IL. On October 11, 1943, in Texarkana, TX, she married Alois “Al” John Koutsky, who preceded her in death in 1988. She graduated from Terre Haute High School in Terre Haute, IL, and attended Western State Teachers College for two years. She taught and substituted for ten years in the Moline schools, retiring in 1976. Jeanne was proud of the fact that her family gave 118 years to the teaching of children. Jeanne was a member of the Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Quad City Writer’s Club, and the Rock Island Conservation Club. She was a rock collector, wrote poetry, and enjoyed letter writing. She loved to work outdoors in her yard, growing flowers. She shared this love with her great-grandchildren. Jeanne and Al loved camping in their trailer, and traveling on bus trips. Survivors include a son, L. John Koutsky of Milan, IL; grandson, David (Kris) Koutsky of Milan; great-grandchildren: Brittany, Allysa, Austin, Tyler, Josh, and Aaron, all of Milan; and a niece, Sally Smith of Clifton, VA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, a brother, and a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Koutsky.
