Helen Virginia Campagna, 78, of Coal Valley, IL, formerly of Moline, IL, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Trinity Medical Center West in Rock Island, IL. Helen Virginia Whitacre was born on June 21, 1929, to Ray and Hilda (Harris) Whitacre in Winchester, VA. She married Peter Campagna on January 5, 1977, in Moline, IL. He preceded her in death April 21, 2003. She was employed as the Hostess at Village Inn, where she met her husband, Peter. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Moline. Helen and Pete loved traveling, especially in the southern and midwestern United States, camping with their recreational vehicle. Helen also enjoyed bingo and other games, and watching baseball, golf and NASCAR on television. She was devoted to her cats, and particularly loved family activities. In the last years of her life, she had been happily living at Oak Glenn Home. There will be a private family service with burial at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Oak Glenn Home in Coal Valley. Survivors include: two stepdaughters: Kristen Bergren of Moline, and Leslie Pancoast of Livermore, CA; two stepsons: Jeff Campagna of Moline, and Peter Campagna of Davenport, IA; one brother: Preston Whitacre of Winchester, VA; and seven grandchildren: Sam and Joe Bergren, Blair and Julie Campagna, Ted and Curtis Pancoast, Audrey Camp; and one great-grandson, Jacob Pancoast. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
