Helen Slater

Helen Slater, 94, of Moline, IL, died Saturday, February 7, 2009, at Amber Ridge Assisted Living Center in Moline. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 10th, at 2:00 p.m., at First Lutheran Church, 1230 Fifth Avenue, Moline. There will be no visitation. A private family burial will take place at Moline's Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Wendt Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church. A. Helen Lundquist was born in Moline, on June 3, 1914, to George and Thyra (Swanson) Lundquist. On June 20, 1947, in Moline, she married M. H. "Jack" Slater, who preceded her in death on December 3, 1951. She graduated with the Moline High School Class of 1932, and graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. Helen was a Secretary for the former International Harvester Company - East Moline Works for 21 years, retiring in 1975. She was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church, enjoyed watching "Jeopardy", and especially loved her family. Survivors include: her son: Jack (Deb) Slater of Moline; her sister: Mrs. "Meem" Brandt of East Moline, IL; grandchildren: Lori (Derek) Luna of Moline, Jaclyn Slater of Moline, Allen (Kate) Wallace of Marion, IA, and Melissa Wallace of Rock Island, IL; two great grandchildren: Lily K and Brock W Luna, both of Moline; nephews: Steve (Cristy) Horst of Hampton, IL, and Jamie (Gail) Horst of Coal Valley, IL. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua D. Slater.
