Helen M. Shaffer, 97, of Moline, IL, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. The visitation will be Friday, January 26th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held January 27th at 9:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1608 – 13th Street, Moline, IL. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, IL. Helen Marie Olson was born May 25, 1920, in Hooppole, IL, to Charles and Pauline (Adasiewicz) Olson. She graduated from Maple Grove Elementary School and Moline Senior High School. On April 6, 1940, in Moline, she married Charles H. Shaffer, who preceded her in death February 27, 1984. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline, the Altar and Rosary Society, the Friends Circle, the Lend-A-Hand Kings Daughters, The Questers-Saukenuk #651, and the Maple Grove Home Extension. She liked antiques and enjoyed collecting dolls. She especially loved her grandchildren. Survivors include her son, Daniel W. (Susan) Shaffer of Moline; daughter, Darci L.(Mike-deceased) Pinedo of Warrenville, IL; grandchildren, James (Randi) Shaffer of Buckeye, AZ, Jennifer (Brent) Cattanach of Greenville, WI, and Charlie Pinedo of Warrenville, IL; and great-grandchildren, Bryce Smith, Hannah Cattanach, Ashley Shaffer, and Sophie Shaffer. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, Mike Pinedo, a granddaughter, Emma Pinedo, a great-grandson, Nolan Smith, a sister, Gladys Kohler, and a brother, Raymond Olson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, or to the Northwestern Cancer Center, Northwestern Memorial Foundation, 0 South 050 Winfield Road, Winfield, IL 60190.
