Gregory D. Stanley, 50, of Moline, IL, died Monday, July 4, 2011, after a prolonged battle with cancer, at the Iowa City V.A. Hospital in Iowa City, IA. Per his wishes, the body will be cremated. Wendt Funeral Home, in Moline, is handling the arrangements. A memorial service will be held Monday, July 11th, at 11:00 a.m., at Northcrest Calvary Baptist Church, 3004 – 56th Street, Moline. There will be a luncheon served immediately after the service, after which burial will take place at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund for his children. Gregory Dale Stanley was born in Rock Island on December 29, 1960, the son of Birt and Elva (Burns) Stanley. He graduated with the Moline High School Class of 1979, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1979 until 1982. In Milan, IL, on May 20, 1995, he married Dawn Bunker. He was employed by Midland Davis Corporation for 20 years, and was a member of the Northcrest Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed putting together models, loved collecting, fishing, bowling, and working on cars. Survivors are his children: Nathan and Erica, both of East Moline, IL; his sister, Debbra (Roger) Graham of Davenport, IA; and his brother, Travis (Geri) Stanley of East Moline, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to extend special thanks to Pastor Ron Philpot, Linda Gahnal, Noah and Karisa Norris, and the doctors and nurses at Iowa City V.A. Hospital.
