Gillian Holmes

April 22, 1944 — January 26, 2025

Gillian Holmes, a cherished soul known for her quick wit and creative spirit, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, in Moline. Born on April 22, 1941, in Gloucestershire, England, to the late Fred and Evelyn (Cooney) Smith, Gillian's life was a tapestry of love, service, and artistry.

Gillian's journey led her to the loving arms of Joseph Holmes Jr., with whom she built a life filled with joy and laughter until his preceding death. From this union blossomed a family that would become Gillian's pride and joy: her devoted son, Andrew (Wendy) Holmes of Moline, and her loving daughter, Cathie (Alan) Maulberger of Argenta, IL. Her legacy further flourished through her adoring grandchildren, Joshua, Timothy, Amanda, and Adam, and her eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her immediate family, Gillian is survived by her beloved brother, David Smith, and his wife, Margaret.

Gillian's passion for nurturing others extended beyond her family. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to earn a nursing degree in England, followed by a certification in respiratory therapy. For over two decades, Gillian dedicated her life to the healthcare profession as a respiratory therapist, where her compassion and expertise provided comfort and care to countless individuals.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Gillian was a woman of many talents and interests. Her artistic abilities were evident in her beautiful paintings, which remain as testaments to her creative vision. Her hands were rarely still, as they were often busy knitting intricate patterns or tending to her vibrant garden. Gillian's love for baking ensured that her home was always filled with the sweet aroma of her delicious creations.

Those who knew Gillian will fondly remember her for her humor and creativity. Her quick wit could ignite laughter in any room, and her creative nature was a source of inspiration to all who had the pleasure of experiencing her artwork and crafts.
