Gary L Helms

Gary L. Helms, 68, of Moline, IL, passed away Monday, July 9, 2012, at Trinity Medical Center in Moline, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, is handling arrangements for the family. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, P.O. Box 1364, Cedar Rapids, IA 52406-1364. Gary L. Helms was born in Moline on August 17, 1943, to Wallace and Lena (Streit) Helms, Jr. He retired from the former Montgomery Elevator (now Kone) after 35 years of service. Gary was an avid golfer and bowler, and enjoyed his annual fishing trip with his family. Survivors include: his mother, Lena Helms of Moline; son, Matthew Helms, and granddaughter, Jenna Helms, both of Iowa City, IA; brother, Larry (Donetta) Helms of Ophiem, IL; sister, Opal Loveall of East Moline, IL; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his beloved dog, Sally. He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Helms.
