Garna Jeanette Dunham

Garna J. Dunham, 76, of Moline, IL, died Monday, October 21, 2013, at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, IL. Visitation will be Thursday, October 24th, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Friday, October 25th, at 10:00 a.m., at First Christian Church, 1826 - 16th Street, Moline. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery, Moline, Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Moline. Garna Jeanette McDowell was born in Adair County Missouri on April 9, 1937, to Gerald and Orpha (Morrow) McDowell. On November 25, 1956, in Kirksville, MO, she married Olen Laverne Dunham, Sr, who survives. She was a graduate of United Township High School in East Moline, IL. Her career in life was caring for family and others. Garna was a member of First Christian Church, a Church Elder, the Outreach Chair, was a Library Committee member, and was on the Foundering Board of the Wee Care Day Care. As well as being an active member of the church for 52 years, she was a Foster Parent for 32 years, and was awarded a Criminal Justice Award in 1980. In addition to her volunteering at church, and caring for others, she enjoyed reading, and especially loved the times she spent with her grandkids. In addition to her husband, Laverne, survivors include: daughters: Lisa Dunham and O'Lynn (Todd) Thiele, both of Moline; sons: Olen Laverne Dunham, Jr. of Moline, and Steven Dunham of Texas; a sister: Jacqueline "Jackie" Maranda of Moline; a step-sister: Lola Gay Western of Kirksville, MO; brothers: Dana McDowell of Kirksville, MO, and Darrell McDowell, of Clarence, MO; grandchildren: Hannah and Landon Thiele of Moline; and sisters-in-law: Nadine Dunham of Kirksville, MO, Avis McBee of Memphis, MO, and Karen Epperson of New Sharon, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Porubcin and his staff.
