Fredric James Swango

Fredric J. Swango, 79, of Moline, IL, died Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at UnityPoint Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island, IL. The graveside gathering will take place Monday, March 12th, at 10:00 a.m., with Military Honors given by American Legion Post #246. Anyone wishing to attend should meet in the Wendt Funeral Home parking lot no later than 9:45 a.m. for the procession to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to Quad City Animal Welfare in Milan, IL. Fredric James Swango was born in Moline on February 13, 1939, to William and Lillian Mae (Benkaizer) Swango, Sr. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree, and was a career officer in the U.S. Marine Corp for twenty-one years, achieving the rank of Major. After serving his country, he taught at the Western Illinois University Extension. He enjoyed fishing and visiting area animal shelters. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Swango, Jr., and sisters, Anna Marie Evans, Shirley McLaughlin, Betty Murphy, and Ruth Cozad.
