He was a proud 1949 UTHS graduate and then completed a 5-year apprenticeship at John Deere as a Metal Pattern Maker. He served in the US Army from 1954-56 as a pattern maker at Fort Belvoir, returning to John Deere upon his honorable discharge. He worked at Century 21, Weir, VanBuskirk, Ruhl & Ruhl, Wendt, and Doyle Nelson. He worked at Wendt’s Funeral Home as a greeter. He had also worked at Stuedervant’s Dairy, and as a deputy assessor at South Moline Township.

He enjoyed being an East Moline-Silvis Rotary member and was honored to be a Paul Harris Fellow. He had served many years as a Volunteer FireFighter for the Carbon Cliff Fire Department, on numerous Credit Union Boards (Malleable, Foundry, Plow Planter, Deere Harvester & DHCU) for 50 years, and at Faith Lutheran Church on various councils over his 60 years of membership.

He enjoyed being with people, talking, playing cards, bowling, and golfing.

He is survived by his wife, brother-in-law Kenton (Bonnie) Riceman, sister-in-law Sally (Larry) True, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John, Harley, Albert Jr (Babe), and Dick, sisters Geraldine Lance and Alice Denhardt, and son Doug.
