Eva L Benner

February 25, 1924 — April 26, 2014

Eva L. Benner, 90, of Moline, IL, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at her home. Visitation will be Thursday, May 1st, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be held Friday, May 2nd, at 10:30 a.m., at First Christian Church, 1826 - 16th Street, Moline. Entombment will be in the Moline Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church, or to Quad City Animal Welfare Center, 724 - 2nd Avenue West, Milan, IL 61264. Eva L. Moore was born in Rapatee, IL, on February 25, 1924, to Rufus William and Carrie Roberta (Brashear) Moore. On December 4, 1959, in Davenport, IA, she married Glenn D. Benner, who preceded her in death April 18, 2012. She attended Clearview Grade School, and graduated from Fairview High School. She was an active member of the Rapatee Union Church before moving to the Quad Cities to work in the tool crib at the former International Harvester Company East Moline Works in East Moline. Later, Eva supported her husband's Chiropractic practice through her administrative work in the office, as well as her membership in the Women's Auxiliary to International Chiropractors Association, and the Prairie State Chiropractic Association. She received multiple awards for her work in these organizations. Eva was a member of First Christian Church in Moline, where she taught Sunday School for many years, and was very active in the Christian Women's Fellowship (CWF). She loved to play card games of all types, and was a member of the American Contract Bridge League, and of the Korn Kurl Girls Bridge Club. Eva enjoyed games of chance, and continued her hobby with the one-arm bandits at Jumer's, in spite of her failing eyesight. Eva had a caring and uplifting spirit that attracted many to her. Although she had no children, she was adopted by several to be their pseudo Grandmother or Aunt, and was known as the Candy Lady by the neighborhood children. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by two nieces, Janet (Russell) Carr of Wisconsin, and Doris Norgart of Florida; one nephew, James (Carol Lee) Moore of Galesburg, IL; several great-nieces and -nephews; and her cat, Patsy Cline. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister, and two brothers.
