Eunice L Boardman

Eunice L. Boardman, 83, of Rock Island, IL, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf, IA. Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL, on Saturday, May 9th, at 12 noon, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. There will also be a memorial service May 16th at 11:00 a.m., at the Unitarian Church, 3707 Eastern Avenue, Davenport, IA. Inurnment will be in Fairfield Cemetery, Cordova, IL. Memorials may be made to the Hollis & Anna Boardman Scholarship Fund, or the Unitarian Church of Davenport. Eunice L. Boardman was born in Cordova, IL, on January 27, 1926, to Hollis and Annie (Feaster) Boardman. She was a graduate of Cornell College, received her Masters Degree from Columbia University in New York City, and her Doctorate from the University of Illinois. She taught music in the elementary schools in Postvile, IA, Maquoketa, IA, and then taught at Grinnell College in Iowa, and at Wichita State in Kansas. She later was Director of the Music Department at the University of Wisconsin, and then Director of the Music Education Department at the University of Illinois. She was author of a series of musical education books for the elementary grades, and several text books at the Masters level. She was renoun in her field nationwide, and received many awards, one of which was the Distinguished Service Award from the Wisconsin Music Educators Conference in the State of Wisconsin. Survivors include: a sister: Janice Wainwright of East Moline, IL; two step-children, nine nephews, and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister: Marian Hamilton, and a brother: William Boardman.
