Elmus "Jeff" Jeffery, age 84, died Friday, July 18, 2008 at his home in Moline, IL. Elmus M. Jeffery was born July 2, 1924, to Elmus and Muriel (MacDaniel) Jeffery in Davenport, IA. He married Diane Patricia Steyaert on December 23, 1949, in Moline. He served during WWII, from 1942 to 1946, as an Army Paratrooper with the 17th Airborne. He was employed as a truck driver for Burlington Northern for 33 years, retiring in 1984. "Jeff" was a 54-year member of Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Moline, was a life member of the Moline V.F.W. #2153, and served on the color guard team. He raced stock cars in the 1950's, coached Little League Baseball during the 1960's, and Girls' Softball in the 1970's. Visitation will be Sunday, July 20th, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. A memorial service will be held Monday, July 21nd, at 11:00 a.m., at Union Congregational Church, 1811 - 53rd Street, Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island, IL, with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to Union Congregational Church, UCC in Moline. In addition to his wife, Pat, he is survived by four children: Daniel (Linda) Jeffery of Albuquerque, NM, James (Jan) Jeffery of Moline, Jody (Tom) Hines of Appleton, WI, and Julie (James) Bustard of Rock Island; three sisters: Margaret Badeau of Ft. Atkinson, WI, Shirley Hanson of Rock Island, and Dorothy Young of Phoenix, AZ; one brother: Philip Jeffery of Rock Island; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents.
