Elmer Leonard Griffin

Elmer Griffin, 92, of East Moline, IL, formerly of Rock Island, IL, died Friday, January 20, 2012, at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, IL. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 25th, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Thursday, January 26th, at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in Silvis, IL. Memorials may be made to the WWII Honor Flights, or the Rock Island Conservation Club. Elmer Leonard Griffin was born in Moline on April 3, 1919, to Milton and Ethel (Johnson) Griffin. He was a graduate of Moline High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1946, attached to the USS LeJeune. He was married on May 10, 1940, to Constance Leone Miles. Later, in Moline on November 18, 1966, he married Anna Ruby Richards-Wadsager, who survives. After thirty years, he retired from the John Deere Foundry in East Moline. He was a member of the Two Rivers Methodist Church in Rock Island, IL. He enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially fishing, mushroom hunting, squirrel hunting, and his cabin on the river. In addition to his wife, Anna, survivors include: sons: David (Rita) Griffin and Ronald (Claudia) Griffin, all of Milan, IL; stepdaughters: Patricia (Jim) Gerhardt of Geneseo, IL, and Sandra (Jack) Kincaid of Moline; stepsons: Eugene (Shirley) Wadsager, and Richard (Sally) Wadsager, all of East Moline, Herbert Wadsager of Sun City Center, FL, and Robert (Jana) Wadsager of Chicago, IL; a sister: Martha Minnaert of Geneseo; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters: Rose Bleuer, Ruby Lang, Alice Shafer, Helen Frazier, Eunice Reehl, and Dorothy Sayre, and two brothers: Clarence Griffin and Donald Griffin.
