Elesia Mina

Elesia Ochavez Mina, 79, of Moline, IL, surrounded by her loved ones, went to the arms of her Savior on Friday, November 12, 2010, at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, IA. Visitation will be Friday, November 19th, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Saturday, November 20th, at 9:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. She was born Elesia Carino Ochavez on July 1, 1931, in Bani, Pangasinan, Philippines. She was the eldest child of Tomas and Dolores (Carino) Ochavez. On December 4, 1950, in the Bani Catholic Church, she married Melardo O. Mina. They have one daughter and son-in-law, Melsie and Michael Anderson of Galesburg, IL. Elesia was a kind, gentle, and generous soul. She was a devout Catholic, and a loving wife and mother. Her happiest moments were spent sewing and watching movies with her daughter, gardening with her husband, and fishing and cooking with her close-knit family. She always looked forward to visiting with her family in Chicago and Canada. Elesia welcomed all to her home with a big hug, and none ever left hungry. She appreciated the beauty of the outdoors, and so often sat on her porch swing in the evenings, enjoying the sunset over her garden. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. In addition to Mel, her husband of 60 years, she is survived by her daughter: Melsie (Michael) Anderson; brother: Victorino Ochavez of the Philippines; step-siblings: Gerry Ochavez, Edwin Ochavez, Beth Rivera, Imelda Abugan, Rebecca Viloria, Harry Ochavez, and Elna Obtinalia, all of the Philippines; sisters- and brothers-in-law: Sion & Enting Navalta and Conshing & Vilamor Tobias of Mississauga, Canada; cousin: Lilia Oduca of Chicago; and numerous nieces and nephews in Chicago, Canada, and the Philippines. She was preceded in death by her parents.
