Eleanor Johnson Grafton

Eleanor “Eli” Johnson Grafton, 88, of Moline, IL, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014, at her home in Moline, IL. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 13th, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 2420 – 41st Street, Moline, IL. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the National Cemetery on Arsenal Island, Rock Island, IL. Arrangements are being handled by Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Eli Lange was born in Moscow, IA, on December 23, 1925, to Leonard and Elsie (Morgan) Lange. On June 9, 1946, she married Gordon Johnson who preceded her in death on December 17, 1982. She then married Jim Grafton in January of 1985. He died on April 20, 2002. She graduated from Moline High School and attended Augustana College in Rock Island. Eli was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Moline and Kingsdaughters Carolyn Getz Circle. She was a member, and past president, of the Moline Library Board for twenty years. Survivors include a son Gordon Johnson of Davenport, IA; daughters Laurie Johnson Manis of Rock Island, Kathryn (Steve Kuemmerle) Johnson of Grayslake, IL, and Betsey (Rick Sherman) Johnson of Davenport, IA; grandchildren Charles (Melissa) Manis, Geoffrey (Jennifer) Manis, Pamela Kuemmerle, Harris Kuemmerle, William Sherman, and Eliza Sherman, and a great-grandchild Harper Michael Manis; step-children Jim (Mary) Grafton, Suzi Apple, Mindy (Steve) Kruse, Molly Grafton and Al Hallene; and step-grandchildren Abby and Ben Grafton, Ashley and Aubrie Apple, and Bryan and Jimmy Hallene. She is also survived by special caregivers, including Heather Andrew and Becky Burwell. In addition to her parents, husbands, and two sisters, she was preceded in death by Esther and Harold Olson, Hilda Olson, Michael Harper Manis, Josh Grafton and Alex Hallene. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church or the Moline Public Library.
