Eleanor Jane Peterson

Eleanor J. Peterson, age 98, formerly of Moline, IL, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, in Houston, TX. Services will be held Wednesday, July 10th, at 1:00 p.m., at First Congregational Church, 2201 - 7th Avenue, Moline, with a 2-hour visitation, beginning at 11:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will take place at Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church, Moline, or to The Augustana College Fund at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. Eleanor Jane Beauchamp was born March 22, 1915, to Grover and Mae (Hicks) Beauchamp in Bear Lake, MI. She married Roland Peterson on July 18, 1936, in Rock Island, IL. He preceded her in death September 28, 1975. Eleanor graduated from Rock Island High School and attended Augustana College. She worked for the former Moline State Trust & Savings Bank, and then as Legal Secretary for Schwiebert & Schwiebert in Moline, retiring in 1999, at age 84. She moved to Houston in 2008, living with her son, Bill, until her death. She was a 70-year member of the First Congregational Church in Moline, taking part in the Benevolent Guild, the Friendship Guild, the Congregators, and the former Kings Daughters. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a Charter member of the Rock Island County Legal Secretary Association, a member of Couples Bridge Club for over 50 years, a member of AARP since 1992, and was a volunteer for Alternatives for Older Adults. She also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader. Survivors include: a daughter: Margaret Gilroy of Dade City, FL; two sons: Ronald (Ruth Ann) Peterson of Las Cruces, NM, and William Peterson of Houston, TX; four grandchildren: Lynn, Marjorie, Megan, and Donny II; and three great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Chloe, and Jordon. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two sisters.
