Eleanor Diehl, 93, of Moline, IL, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Heartland Healthcare Center in Moline, IL. Services will be Monday, January 11th, at 12:00 noon, with a two-hour visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of the service, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park Cemetery in Moline. Memorials may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, the Wounded Warriors Project, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Eleanor Lenc was born in Chicago, IL, on November 5, 1922, to Frank and Emma Lenc and moved to Silvis, IL, with her family in 1924. On June 27, 1943, in East Moline, IL, she married Robert Diehl, and they were married for almost sixty-five years. She is a 1940 graduate of the former East Moline High School, after which she attended Moline Business College. She worked as a comptometer operator in the payroll department at International Harvester Company East Moline Works. After her marriage, Eleanor was a stay-at-home mom, during which time she was actively involved in her children’s schools, her church, and served as a Brownie/Girl Scout Leader. At age 50, Eleanor embarked upon a fifteen-year real estate career with Frank Mahar Agency and Mel Foster Company. She was on her high school tennis team and continued to enjoy indoor league tennis to age 70. Until recent months, she was an avid Bridge player. Beta Sigma Phi, Eleanor’s sorority since pre-World War II, was the nucleus of many lifelong friendships to current day. She was passionate about local, state, and national politics, and extremely proud of her Bohemian heritage and Midwestern roots. Eleanor is survived by her children, Linda (Rick) Roman of San Rafael, CA, Ray (Edwina) Diehl of Crown Point, IN, and Rob (Stephanie) Diehl of Littleton, CO; six grandchildren, Douglas (Cynthia) Erickson, Brittney (Dan) Ryan, Geoffrey, Eric, Matthew (Bianca), and Heather Diehl; six great-grandchildren, Natalie, Emilee, and Robyn Erickson, Jake and Cole Ryan, and Vivian Diehl; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her parents, two sisters, Grace Versypt and Mildred Odean, and two brothers, George Lenc and Robert Lenc.
