Eleanor “Elly” Anna Fiechter, 93, of Moline, IL, surrounded by her loving family, passed into the hands of the Lord on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 12th, at 10:30 a.m. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 11th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Beth Hamilton of the Swedona Lutheran Church in Swedona, IL, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, IL. Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, or the Swedona Lutheran Church, of which she was a member. Eleanor was born January 29, 1922, in Colona, Henry County, IL, the daughter of Charles and Ella (Pobanz) Kershaw. Mrs. Fiechter attended rural schools in Henry County. She wed John Maxwell in 1941. She later married Robert E. Fiechter on November 4, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1981. Having survived the Great Depression and WWII, Eleanor was the epitome of the Greatest Generation, ever emphasizing the ethic of hard work in her family. Eleanor was an excellent cook known for her prime rib dinners and wonderful pies. She set beautiful holiday tables for her family and instilled a sense of tradition in her children. Most of her working life was as a waitress with Balla’s Airport Inn and Short Hills Country Club. She retired at the age of 75. She loved to travel, having been to Alaska and Hawaii with her dear friend, Josephine Allison, after their retirement. She enjoyed traveling to California for extended visits with family. She did beautiful crocheted needlework, and most of all, she loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Those left to honor her memory include son Gary (Fran) Maxwell of Coal Valley, IL, daughter Judith Fiechter (Stan) Kittleson of Blue Grass, IA, son Richard (Brenda) Fiechter of Granite Bay, CA, and daughter Janice Fiechter (Gary) Pearson of Aledo, IL; grandsons: Tim Maxwell of Wheaton, IL, and Jon (Ellen) Maxwell and their son, Jack, of Chicago, IL, Ryan Nesham and his daughters, Madison and Ella, of North Liberty, IA, Kevin (Emily) Carlson and their son, Will, and daughter, Audrey, of Abingdon, IL, Jason (Sara) Carlson and their children, Sophia and Jacob, of Viola, IL, R.J. (Jen) Fiechter and their children, Nolan and Morgan, of Auburn, CA, Bradley (Krystal) Fiechter and their sons, Ryder, Rayce, Ryker, and Rayden, of Mountain House, CA; granddaughter Samantha (Mike) Milo and their children, Mason and Gianna, of Rocklin, CA; and step-grandchildren that include Steven (Debra) Kittleson of Huntsville, AL, Paul Kittleson of Knoxville, TN, and Jeanine Kittleson and her sons ,Jacob and Thomas, of Villa Park, IL. Also surviving is her brother Ralph Kershaw of Des Moines, IA. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, a brother Leonard Kershaw, a sister Dorothy Benson, an infant sister Julie, and a daughter-in-law Georgine Marie Maxwell.
